Identify roles that produce product, cut down on roles that do not.
Classify each role as a producer, a supporter, or a role that adds no value to the project (deadbeats). Eliminate the deadbeats, and in some cases, eliminate or consolidate some supporters. Nurture the producer roles; they are the ones that pay the bills.
Roles tend to proliferate, and when they do, the communication overhead grows. Some roles are more useful than others. When it is necessary to cut the amount of communication, the roles that add less value should be eliminated or consolidated.
