Definition

Link each role to a central role that orchestrates process activities, with the activities taking place serially.  Co-ordination is achieved by communications to and from the ‘hub’, while work is done in the ‘rim’.

Discussion

The hub role is a manager role, but should beware micro-management.  It should set and communicate priorities and monitor schedules.  It may also take on the responsibility to ensure work is being progressed and facilitate hand-off between rim roles.  However, the hub configuration is subject to congestion, and one or both of these latter responsibilities may better be placed with the relevant rim roles.
